Level Up San Diego Summer Learning Program
UPAC is teaming up with The San Diego Foundation and San Diego Unified School District to bring FREE Summer learning opportunities to SD Unified School District students. Our two week program (The Neighborhood Enterprise Center Experience) will give students hands-on job training and engages them in new cultures and experiences, based on the services we offer at NEC.
The NEC Experience will meet three times a week, with each class focusing on a different job-skill. In addition, throughout the two weeks, students will learn about entrepreneurship and what it takes to start your own business. Trainings include:
Cultural Culinary Arts– Cooking classes that teach students how to execute a different cultural dish each week. Cultures include: Vietnamese, Somali, Karen, Ethiopian, Filipino, Mexican, Ugandan, Lao, Nepalese, and more. Training takes place in the commercial kitchen and led by Head Chef Eddie. Students get to enjoy the dishes they create!
Print Shop– Workshops teach students how to make various print items using state-of-the-art printing equipment. Items include: shirts, masks, phone cases, mugs, banners, and decals. Students will get to keep all items they create!
Graphic Design– Workshops will offer graphic design lessons from our graphic designer.
Paid Apprenticeship Opportunity: Four paid apprenticeships will be provided in the areas of print/graphic design or culinary arts during Session 1 and Session 2. Apprenticeships are open to those who complete all 6 sessions of the program. The selection and hiring process will include an interview, background screening, and on-boarding. Not all students will be offered an apprenticeship
