COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

Cultural Competence Skill Training

Organizations, corporations and professionals are assisted to work effectively in cross-cultural environments through (1) understanding the importance of cultural differences, (2) enhancing cultural knowledge, and (3) adapting services to meet culturally unique needs. Individually customized approaches are utilized to fit the particular needs of the requesting entities. Consultants and trainers have extensive experience in assessing, developing and facilitating implementation of cultural competency in a variety of settings.

Beverly Yip Scholarships

In loving memory of the founding Executive Director, Beverley Yip, this scholarship fund was created by the Yip family (her husband, Phillip, and their children, Janice and Keith) to encourage young people to seek education, training, and personal development opportunities. The hope is that these individuals would enter and sustain careers focusing on the social, psychological, physical and economic needs of Asians and Pacific Islanders.

Annual awards include:
  • Three scholarships, each for $1,000, awarded to high school students entering post-secondary education in the coming school year, or current college or graduate school students; and
  • One scholarship totaling $2,500, awarded to a current college or graduate school student for an internship at UPAC. Applicants may select from pre-designed internships.
