Health Promotion and Disease Prevention

Weaving an Islander Network for Cancer Awareness Research (WINCART)
Funded through Orange County Asian and Pacific Islander Community Alliance (OCAPICA)

UPAC participates in a collaboration of community-based organizations and researchers which promotes cancer awareness, prevention screening and treatment, and enhances research and training of Pacific Islander scientists for effective prevention and control strategies that reduce gaps in health services for San Diego’s Samoan communities.

Families Living in Good Health Together (FLIGHT)
In partnership with Rady’s Children’s Hospital and Family Health Centers of San Diego

FLIGHT provides assistance to Vietnamese parents of children (ages 0-5) with immunization, prenatal care, early childhood education, school readiness, translation and interpretation and transportation support. This project serves San Diego’s North Central Region, and approximately 50 to 75 Vietnamese and Chinese parents residing in the Central Region.

Path of Women Project (CEED)
In partnership with Orange County Asian and Pacific Islander Community Alliance (PCAPICA)

Provides breast and cervical cancer workshops for 100-200 San Diego Samoan men and women as part of commitment to help eliminate health disparities.
