Addiction Treatment and Recovery

Addiction Treatment and Recovery Services
In 1990, UPAC established Pan Asian Drug Prevention program which provided informational presentations to the Southeast Asian and Filipino communities and training to other providers. Over the past 21 years UPAC has continued to expand addiction treatment and recovery services to culturally and linguistically diverse immigrant and refugee populations. Current programs include:

Adult Treatment & Recovery
Services to ethnically diverse adults are provided through 1,300 individual and 5,000 group visits, and include group counseling, crisis intervention, individual and family counseling, relapse prevention, stress management, and case management, translation and interpretation, and employment assistance. Support groups, integrating the cultural norms, values, and expectations of APIs, Latinos, and other populations are conducted in Tagalog, Vietnamese, and Spanish. The culturally competent and linguistically appropriate peer support groups are nationally unique and therefore highly valued by their respective communities.

Adolescent Treatment Programs
Intensive day care treatment services to drug Medi-Cal eligible substance abusing youth (ages 12 – 17) are provided through 1,900 group visits.

Problem Gambling Prevention Technical Assistance
In partnership with the National Asian Pacific Families Against Substance Abuse (NAPAFASA) and as a member of its state-wide coalition, problem gambling outreach, prevention education, training, evaluation, and information to law enforcement, schools, providers and other community groups are provided through 3,200 technical assistance hours. Participating community groups have included the Mira Mesa Youth Collaborative, Morgan Towers Senior Housing, Hope Filipino Senior Center, San Diego County Aging and Independent Services, Vietnamese Clubhouse, San Diego Police Department -Vice Unit, Red Tail Lodge - a residential substance abuse treatment facility for Native Americans, and Catholic Charities.
